Showcasing the free triads booklet, playing a much loved Beatles song

There’s something quite special about this video for me, because it’s probably the first one that properly showcases my new Triads Booklet in action.

The booklet grew out of the main Mode Decoder system, but with a particular focus on visually understanding how chords, triads and modes fit together across the fretboard, and, more importantly, how to actually enjoy playing music with that knowledge rather than getting lost in theory or chord-shape memorisation.

I’ve loved The Beatles for as long as I can remember. Their early songs go right back into my memory, over forty years ago now, when a friend of mine gave me a cassette copy of their Blue Album. One track that always stayed with me was Eight Days a Week. There’s such a joyful energy to it.

What the Triads Booklet and the Mode Decoder now allow me to do is exactly what I always wanted from learning guitar: to put a song like this on and simply play along instinctively and musically, without worrying about complicated chord forms or getting trapped in the technical side of music theory.

That feeling of just connecting with the music while you play along… there’s nothing quite like it, and this video captures that process perfectly.

The workflow itself was surprisingly simple and creative. First, I recorded myself playing the basic chords on my phone. I then uploaded that performance into Suno to create a full cover version built around my own pacing and playing style. After that, I brought the finished track into Garageband, where I could play along naturally while filming the final video. The final result was put together in Blender VSE.

What I love about this approach is that technology is finally helping musicians get closer to the joy of playing, rather than making things more complicated.

I genuinely hope this method, and the ideas inside the Triads Booklet can help other guitarists experience that same feeling of freedom and enjoyment when playing the music they love.
